PARENTS & Students :) !

I am Ms. Pierce, a Physics and Math teacher at Douglas High School. I graduated from the College of Engineering at UMass Dartmouth with a Bachelors Degree in Physics. I am currently seeking my Masters of Art in Teaching and initial licenses. I believe in a safe and comfortable learning environment. I value respect. I understand that everyone has different ways of learning best so I will try to mix it up as much as possible so we all get the most of this year! Parents, the links on this website give you the chance to help your child if you want :) Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns: spierce@douglasps.net

Honors Physics: In this class we learn about the topics of: Kinematics (motion), dynamics (forces), momentum, energy/work, gravity, circular motion, static electricity, circuits, simple harmonic motion, and waves. If you receive a B+ or above in this class you should really consider taking AP Physics the following year! Math is required for both Honors and AP, you need to atleast have taken algebra 2. Notes on each chapter/unit can be found in the Physics tab up above, and ways of learning the material can be found in the blog.

AP Physics: In this class we continue working on the same topics as in Honors Physics, however the problems are more challenging and we will do more labs. We will have practice exams throughout the year which will be previous AP exams to prepare all students to hopefully pass the test at the end of the year. If students pass the AP exam with a 3 or above, they should tell their future college because they can possible receive college credit (not all schools will except AP credit.) The test this year is on May 3rd, 2016 at 12 pm. Notes on each chapter/unit can be found in the Physics tab up above, and ways of learning the material can be found in the blog.

CP Algebra: In this class we will work on many topics of algebra: solving equations for unknown variables (one step, multistep, etc.), factoring, foiling, distributing, graphing, midpoint formula, distance formula, exponents, radical expressions, probability, positive & negative numbers, and fractions! Half way through the year I will recommend each student for what math class I think they should take next year. Their options are CP Geometry, Honors Geometry, or they can double up and take Algebra 2 as well. Students who double up will have to take AP Calculus their senior year. Please talk to me if this is what you would like to do. Useful math practice and MCAS practice can be found in the blog section under More above,
